In Rock Hill, South Carolina, a 27-year-old man named Eli Eason from Clover has been taken into custody following an alleged robbery at a Wells Fargo bank branch on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred just after 1 p.m. at the bank located on Celanese Road, near the intersection of India Hook Road.
According to the Rock Hill Police Department, Eason is accused of presenting a note to the employees that indicated he was conducting a robbery. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from a teller, he fled the scene, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Officers quickly arrived in the area and apprehended Eason in a residential neighborhood on Matthews Drive, situated to the south of the bank. This area is located on the city’s northern edge, just west of Interstate 77, which is known for being one of York County’s busiest thoroughfares.
Meanwhile, police have reported that there were no injuries during the incident, and no weapons were displayed or used by Eason during the robbery. He has been charged with entering a financial institution with the intent to steal, as confirmed by Rock Hill Police Lieutenant Michael Chavis.
As of now, the police have not disclosed the amount of money that was taken from the bank or whether any of it has been recovered. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather information about the crime.
The incident has raised concerns within the local community, especially considering the bank is located on a major road. Witnesses reported seeing an increased police presence and expressed relief that no one was harmed during the robbery. Residents mentioned that the area, known for its busy traffic and commercial activities, typically should be a safe environment.
Officials indicate that they are working diligently to ensure the safety of residents and business patrons nearby. As bank robberies can often create feelings of unease, local law enforcement is urging community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
As investigations continue, Eason is currently facing charges, and the Rock Hill Police Department urges anyone with additional information regarding the robbery to come forward. The swift response by the officers and their successful arrest of the suspect demonstrates their commitment to maintaining public safety in Rock Hill.
