Suspect Shot by Police After Bank Robbery in Rock Hill
ROCK HILL, S.C. – In a nerve-wracking encounter last Monday, a suspected armed bank robber was gunned down by the police following a chase. The suspect was caught after he allegedly robbed the PNC Bank located on the 1800 block of India Hook Road in Rock Hill.
Details of the Incident
Around 6 pm on Monday evening, the Rock Hill Police Department received a call regarding an armed robbery. The officials were informed that the perpetrator had used a handgun and fled the bank after receiving an undisclosed amount of money.
The Chase
Soon after, officers who were already in the Millwood Shopping Center reported seeing a man on a bicycle fitting the description of the alleged robber. They tried to stop the man, but he got off of his bicycle, still armed with the handgun.
The Shooting
According to the Rock Hill Police Department, the officers who were present at the scene drew their guns and fired. The armed suspect was struck in the hand. Upon this, he promptly dropped his weapon and fell onto the ground, at which point the officers arrested him.
Post-Arrest Details
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old David Herbert Massie from Pennsylvania, was taken to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment and was later released to jail. No officers were injured during the pursuit or the arrest.
Charges Against the Suspect
David Herbert Massie was charged with armed robbery and the possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is currently awaiting trial.
