Rock Hill: Baseball Scores Nine Runs Over Final Three Innings To Down Charlotte

Winthrop scored nine runs over the final three innings to come back from a 4-1 deficit and defeat the Charlotte 49ers by a final score of 10-6 Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, Winthrop moves to 15-23-1 overall.

How It Happened:
Winthrop loaded the bases with two outs to start the game after a pitch hit Nicholas Badillo but Ricky Teel grounded out on the next play. The Eagles broke through in the fourth on Anthony Ruocco’s RBI single to center field, driving in Teel and putting Winthrop on top 1-0.
The 49ers responded with a three-run fifth to take the lead. In the next inning, Charlotte loaded the bases when Reid Haire drew a walk with two outs. The visitors capitalized, and Johnny Sutryk came in to score on a wild pitch.
In the Eagle half of the sixth with the bases loaded and two outs, Teel came home to score on a wild pitch and cut the lead to 4-2. In the seventh, Winthrop exploded for five runs to go ahead to stay, 7-4. They put the 49ers away with one out in the eighth with another scoring binge, pushing across three more runs. Charlotte ended the contest with a two-run home run to right field by Juan Correa with two outs.

Winthrop has the rest of the week off for final exams but will return to the field on Wed., May 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Wofford.
