Rock Hill Church Gives Back with Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway

Rock Hill, S.C. — This Thanksgiving, Illumine Church is making a significant impact on the local community by providing over 6,000 meals to those in need. The church has a long-standing tradition of charitable giving, and this year marks the 58th annual meal giveaway.

Who is Involved?

Illumine Church, located at 1689 Springsteen Road in Rock Hill, is leading this initiative. Under the guidance of church staff and volunteers, the team began cooking meals on Sunday and will continue until all food is distributed. According to Dr. Ronal King, a church official, the effort is more than just feeding those in need; it offers a sense of hope and community support during the holiday season.

What is Happening?

The meal distribution kicks off at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day and will continue until all meals are gone. The meals will include traditional Thanksgiving dishes such as turkey, green beans, candied yams, and pumpkin pie. For those unable to travel, volunteers will deliver meals to various locations in the surrounding regions.

Where is It Taking Place?

The event will be held at the church location in Rock Hill. Additionally, the meals will be delivered across several counties, including Mecklenburg, York, Lancaster, and Chester. Individuals who find it challenging to visit the church can call 803-389-2939 to request delivery.

When is the Event Scheduled?

The meal giveaway will take place on Thanksgiving Day, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing until all plates are served. The cooking for the event is already underway, ensuring that everything is prepared in time.

Why is This Important?

This annual event is crucial not only for providing meals but also for serving the broader community. Dr. King notes that those who will receive meals include families from various backgrounds, including those who might have fallen on hard times. “The value is more than you can calculate,” he stated, pointing out that many recipients are not just the so-called less fortunate; some individuals who once owned homes valued at $100,000 are now in need of assistance.

In addition to the meals for local families, the church has also committed to helping those affected by recent natural disasters. More than 800 turkeys were sent to victims of Hurricane Helene in the Asheville area, showcasing the church’s outreach beyond the local community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Illumine Church is still welcoming volunteers, encouraging community members to participate in this impactful event. People interested in helping can reach out directly to the church for more information.

As Thanksgiving approaches, Illumine Church continues its legacy of compassion and service, providing nourishment and community support to those who need it most.
