Looking Ahead: Executive Session

executive session may be held to discuss appointments to various Boards and Commissions as well as confidential attorney/client issues. These sessions are closed off from the public, creating an air of mystery around what is being discussed.

Citizens Review Board Activity

Citizens Review Board (CRB) has had some limited engagement since its formation in April 2021. They have only reviewed four cases, with three being submitted by a single individual. There are restrictions in place that allow only those with an official complaint, following an internal police investigation, to present their cases for review. This has led to concerns about the accessibility and transparency of the review process.

The public has expressed a desire for improved engagement, and that conversation will surely continue as the CRB’s bylaws have yet to evolve since being amended in June 2023 to further restrict complaint submissions.

City officials have suggested that the low number of complaints may reflect overall satisfaction with the police department, but there is clearly a desire for greater transparency and involvement from the community moving forward.
