How It Happened
In the top of the first, Charleston Southern got on the board first when Dakota Miller drew a bases loaded walk with two outs. Winthrop loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the inning when Jaylen Hernandez drew a walk but two plays Ricky Teel grounded out to end the frame.
Winthrop plated across three runs in the bottom of the third to take a two-run edge. Colin Lombardo’s groundout brought in Harrison Wilson and gave Winthrop a 3-1 lead. The Buccaneers tied the game in the top of the fourth on Miller’s two-run home run to left field with no one out.
In the next inning with no one out, Charleston Southern took the lead as Cade Conway came in to score on an error. In the bottom of the sixth with the count 0-1, no one out with Hernandez on first base, the game went into a weather delay with the Bucs ahead 4-3. The game was eventually called after nearly two hours due to unplayable field conditions.
