In a poignant story that has stirred many hearts in the Rock Hill community and beyond, Ciara Dierking, a local mother of two who fell ill while visiting family in Pennsylvania during Christmas, has now been moved to a hospital in Charlotte. Family members revealed that the transportation took place in the early hours of Friday morning.
Despite the progress in her condition, it remains clear that Dierking still has a considerably long recovery period ahead. Astoundingly, the Go Fund Me account established for her has now raised over 100,000 dollars. Not only is the family grateful for the financial assistance, but also for the emotional support they’ve received throughout this ordeal.
To recap the tragic chain of events, Dierking and her family, including her husband, David, and their two sons, Colton and Jackson, were visiting relatives in Pennsylvania for Christmas in December 2023. Dierking and her youngest son started to show signs of illness
Three-year-old Colton complained about pain in his neck initially, prompting Ciara to rush him to an urgent care center nearby. On December 26th, he was transferred to a hospital, where it was discovered that he was suffering from Coronavirus, Strep, and had two abscesses in his neck. Colton is now recovering well after two surgical procedures.
Only two days following Colton’s diagnosis, Ciara herself was rushed to the hospital. Dierking had contracted Influenza B, Group A Strep, and Pneumonia. David reveals that toxins entered her bloodstream, triggering septic shock. As her organs started failing, Ciara was put on life support, and doctors urged the family to pray for a miracle.
As a response to the severity of her condition, a defibrillator was used on Ciara resulting in her heart ceasing to beat. However, thanks to the prompt actions of the medical staff who had already placed her on the Ecmo machine, they were able to keep her alive despite her heart’s failure.
Unfortunately, the high quantities of blood pressure medications that she was administered to save her life constricted her blood vessels, leading to a dangerously high chance of her losing her limbs. As such, she had to undergo a quadruple amputation. Distraught but steadfast, David takes solace in the fact that his wife is still alive.
A Go Fund Me link has been attached for those who would like to contribute to Ciara’s ongoing medical expenses. The ongoing journey of Ciara’s and Colton’s recovery is being documented and can be followed through regular updates.
