Rock Hill Shines as Kounter Restaurant Supports Utility Workers

In the heart of Rock Hill, S.C., a wonderful act of kindness has emerged from a local restaurant, Kounter. As the community rallies after the impact of Hurricane Helene, Kounter has temporarily closed its doors to the public, instead dedicating their efforts to providing hot meals for utility workers tirelessly working to restore power in the area.

A Community Effort

Chef Rob Masone shared his thoughts on this beautiful initiative. “We are feeding a bunch of hard-working men and women out there,” he enthusiastically explained. With the day kicking off for these utility workers at the crack of dawn, Kounter’s team begins their own day even earlier. “For us, we’re here in the kitchen at 2 a.m. getting breakfast ready,” Masone said with a smile.

Hearty Meals for Hard Workers

What’s on the menu, you ask? Masone and his dedicated crew have prepared an array of delicious meals that undoubtedly satisfy the hungry workers. “We’re doing smoked turkey, brie, avocado, smoked bacon and Italian sandwiches,” he noted. The meals they whip up are meant to fuel these men and women before they head back into the field.

Feeding the Frontline

With the restaurant’s kitchen running almost 24 hours a day, they’re making breakfast, lunch, and dinner for these hard-working linemen. “They come in for a hot breakfast. They sit down. They eat. They grab a box lunch on the way out the door because they are about to go into the field. They’re not coming back out, so they need something sustainable to get them through the day,” Masone explained, painting a clear picture of the support local utility crews are receiving.

A Village of Volunteers

The gravity of the situation is met with an uplifting reality, as Masone works alongside a team of loyal staff and around 30 to 40 volunteers. This incredible group is coming together to ensure that the utility workers feel appreciated and nourished. “It’s the right thing to do,” Masone reflected. “I mean, somebody needed to do it. This has been really cool to watch my team be so passionate about it.”

Logistics and Logistics

The meals prepared at Kounter are not only delicious but also efficiently delivered. They are transporting the food from Rock Hill to Kings Mountain, specifically to the Duke Energy training facility where the recovery crews are stationed. It’s a well-coordinated operation aimed at keeping the workers fueled as they face long hours ahead in challenging conditions.

Spirit of Kindness

This move by the Kounter restaurant truly embodies the spirit of community and resilience that Rock Hill is known for. In the face of natural adversity, the restaurant has become a beacon of hope and nourishment, showcasing how a community can pull together in times of need.

A Bright Future Ahead

As Kounter continues its week-long mission of supporting the utility workers, one thing is clear: the heart of Rock Hill beats strong and supportive. The appreciation for the brave individuals restoring power and safety to the area echoes throughout the community, and initiatives like this one shine a light on the power of giving back.

So, next time you find yourself in Rock Hill, know that behind the closed doors of Kounter, good food and a lot of heart are being served up in support of those who keep the lights on.
