Rock Hill, S.C. – A horrifying event unfolded inside a local grocery store in Rock Hill on Thursday when a dispute resulted in one man being shot. The culprit quickly fled the scene, leaving chaos and panic in his wake.
The alarming incident took place at Adam’s Grocery situated on South Wilson Street just after lunchtime, with the Rock Hill Police Department (RHPD) receiving a distress call notifying them of a fight that had escalated to gun violence. The call Relay stated that two men had begun to fight inside the grocery store when things took a sudden turn, and one man fired a bullet at the other before escaping from the scene.
The Police arrived to discover a middle-aged man with a gunshot wound in the abdomen. Despite his severe injury, the victim managed to identify his attacker to law enforcement before he was rushed to the nearest hospital.
Demonstrating swift action, The RHPD employed their Bloodhound Tracking Team, a squad utilized for tracing suspects on the run. The team caught up with the suspect, Zamarri Carter, a 24-year-old resident of Rock Hill, at an address on Carolina Avenue Extension.
Carter was immediately taken into custody and moved to Rock Hill Jail, facing multiple charges. These included assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a criminal act, and possession of a firearm by a person with certain crime convictions previously recorded on his name.
The incident sparked outrage and concern among the local community, raising issues of public safety and the growing prevalence of gun violence. This act of aggression and the blatant disregard for human life further emphasize the urgent need for effective strategies to mitigate such violent behaviors.
Furthermore, the staff and patrons of the grocery store remain traumatized from having witnessed the violence first-hand, emphasizing the ripple effect on the local public’s mental health.
This horrific event underscores the ongoing issue of public safety and gun violence in our communities, prompting urgent calls for increased vigilance, more robust law enforcement presence, and stricter firearm control measures. The bravery and quick reaction of both the victim and RHPD is to be commended, preventing further violence and quickly bringing the perpetrator to justice.
