Rock Hill Residents on High Alert After Tool-Throwing Incidents

ROCK HILL, S.C. — If you’re driving through Rock Hill these days, especially along Saluda Road, you might want to keep your eyes peeled and your windows up. Residents are reporting some alarming incidents where tools have been hurled at passing cars, and it’s causing quite a stir.

Jerome, a local driver who prefers to remain anonymous for safety reasons, had a terrifying experience while he was driving home late Friday night. Having just enjoyed a night out at the movies, he found himself driving down Saluda Road around 1 a.m. when suddenly, he heard a loud crash that changed everything. “I was coming down Saluda, and when I was driving, it was quiet, no music on, and then … ‘BANG’ behind me,” he shared. “I instantly knew my window was broken because I heard my glass shatter. I thought a deer was back there.”

To his sheer disbelief, when he looked in the back seat, he discovered a wrench. “When I saw it was a wrench, I was like ‘OMG.’ I’m glad I was the only one in the car,” he said. “What if my two young daughters, just two and three years old, had been back there? That would have been nerve-wracking.” Can you imagine? The thought alone is enough to make any parent’s heart race.

A Shared Experience

Just a couple of days later, another local resident, Mechelle Bennett, shared her own harrowing experience on the same road. “Just a big bang comes out of nowhere and it hits my door,” she recounted from her stressful drive on Sunday night. “It was so loud. My initial thought was … it was a gunshot.” Can you believe she thought that? The mere idea of being shot at is enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine.

Bennett went on to detail how the impact left a noticeable silver mark on her car. “I think that had that wrench gone through my window, it would have definitely hit me in the face,” she said, expressing her relief and concern. “Thankfully I’m okay, but it’s scary to think about the potential for someone getting seriously hurt.” Both Jerome and Mechelle were left shaken but unharmed, while their vehicles sustained serious damage.

Community in Concern

In light of these shocking events, both drivers took to social media to raise awareness. Bennett posted about her experience on Facebook, which led her to an elderly woman who had endured a similar scare just hours later. This rapidly evolving situation is causing concern among residents. “I don’t want anybody else having to go through this,” Bennett said. “This kind of action could really hurt someone.”

Jerome echoed those sentiments, underscoring the need for caution among drivers. “Please be very cautious coming down that road because someone is targeting people late at night,” he warned. Residents are now uniting, hoping that by spreading the word, they can protect themselves and others from further incidents.

Actions Taken

Both Jerome and Bennett have reported their incidents to local police, emphasizing the necessity for swift action. They hope that law enforcement will be able to track down this reckless individual before someone seriously gets hurt. It’s a wake-up call for everyone in the area to stay vigilant.

As the community comes together in this alarming situation, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life on the roads. Everyone is encouraged to drive with extra caution and remain aware of their surroundings. After all, safety should always be a priority.

Let’s hope that the authorities can resolve this situation soon, ensuring that Rock Hill residents can drive without fear and enjoy their city to the fullest.
