Rock Hill: Winthrop Baseball Players Shine in Summer Leagues

A key aspect of college baseball, like all sports at the collegiate level, is that there is never an off-season. Some players work, some train, and others use the summer to suit up and continue playing the game. Winthrop baseball currently has 11 players out on the diamond in eight different collegiate summer leagues around the country, playing on nine different teams.

Local Talent Making an Impact

The majority of the players have stayed local. Abe Affholter is with the Northwoods League (Minot Hot Tots-Minot, N.D.) while Anthony Ruocco is with the Cal Ripken League (DC Grays-Largo, Md.). Chancellor Jennings and Ryan Yaroshuk are both in the Old North State League. Jennings is with the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs (Bolivia, N.C.) while Yaroshuk is with the Tarboro River Bandits (Tarboro, N.C.)

Teammates in Action

Chazz Grossington and Joey Hylinski are both playing for the same team in the Appalachian League (Bluefield Ridge Runners-Bluefield, W. Va.). Connor Harris is with the New England Collegiate Baseball League (Mystic Shooners-Groton, Conn.) while Easton Moore and Walker Brodt are both playing for the same team in the Prospect League (Cape Catfish-Cape Girardeau, Mo.). Jaylen Hernandez is with the Valley Baseball League (Winchester Royals-Winchester, Va.) and Shane Keup is in the Southern College Baseball League (Queen City Corndogs-Charlotte, N.C.) to round it all out.

Exciting Times Ahead

Each player is making the most of their summer opportunity to develop their skills and gain valuable experience on the field. With players scattered across various leagues, Winthrop baseball is well-represented and making waves in the summer baseball scene. Fans can look forward to seeing these talented athletes back in action for the upcoming college baseball season.
