Hey there, folks! It’s a thrilling time in Beaufort as the Royal Live Oaks Academy of Arts and Sciences Charter School (RLOA) has just been honored with a prestigious nod as one of the “Schools to Watch” in South Carolina. Joining RLOA on this esteemed list is the Summit Parkway Middle School from Richland School District Two. This recognition is not just a title but a reflection of their dedication to creating a nurturing environment for learning, especially in those oh-so-important middle grades!
Royal Live Oaks Academy isn’t just a regular school; it serves around 675 students from Beaufort and Jasper Counties across grades K-12. This award marks a historic moment as RLOA is the first charter school in South Carolina to snag this honor. What makes this achievement even sweeter is the commitment shown by their middle school team. They have been tirelessly working to build a successful school culture that encourages students to flourish both academically and personally.
At RLOA, the focus isn’t solely on academics; it’s about nurturing character traits that contribute to overall excellence. Students are learning essential skills that not only promote academic growth but also foster pride in their school community. Their hard work and determination are evident in the increased focus seen in classrooms!
In addition to RLOA, the South Carolina Association for Middle Level Education has recognized the school for its strong academic programs and its focus on the needs of young adolescents. This combination creates an environment that ensures equal access to high-quality education for all students. The excellence doesn’t stop here! Other schools that have been re-designated as “Schools to Watch” this year include:
Now, you might be wondering how schools earn this title. The process includes submitting a detailed application, going through a rigorous site review, and showing a solid commitment to 37 criteria that high-performing middle schools must meet. Currently, a total of 36 schools in South Carolina proudly hold the “Schools to Watch” designation, standing tall among nearly 575 schools nationwide.
As part of this recognition, RLOA and the other honored schools will participate in the annual South Carolina Association for Middle Level Conference at the end of February and will also be celebrated at the National Schools to Watch® Conference in Washington, DC this summer! It’s an exciting time for these schools as they showcase their amazing accomplishments and set examples for others.
The “Schools to Watch” initiative has been promoting quality education in South Carolina for 19 years, supported by various educational organizations. Through this initiative, schools are not just models of excellence in instructional practices; they also emphasize community involvement and ongoing professional development. So, here’s to celebrating the hard work and commitment shown by RLOA, Summit Parkway Middle School, and all the recognized schools across the state!
Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s continue to cheer on our schools as they strive for excellence in education!
