Rock Hill, SC – Public school districts from across South Carolina will congregate online to hire teachers during the two-day South Carolina Virtual Teacher Expo (SCVTE). The SCVTE, the state’s largest teacher recruitment fair, is organized by the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA). The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, and Thursday, March 14.
The SCVTE brings together recruiters from the state’s public school districts and job seekers from across the nation. Recruiters search for impeccable candidates to fill teaching vacancies across all K-12 subjects and grade levels – a crucial part of CERRA’s mission to enhance teacher recruitment, retention, and advancement in South Carolina.
The Supply and Demand Report by CERRA, released in November 2023, revealed a continued teacher shortage in the state. The report highlighted a 9% rise in reported teacher vacancies at the start of the 2023-24 academic year compared to the previous year. The study also showed that more than 7,000 educators in S.C. public school districts leave their teaching/service posts annually, creating vacancies that need to be filled with high-quality candidates. Special education, mathematics, and science are particularly critical areas with a significant rise in vacancies.
Certified teachers, recent graduates of teacher education programs, international teachers meeting U.S. Visa requirements, and individuals having met the required criteria for an approved alternative certification program in South Carolina are all invited to participate in the expo. The expo will also provide information concerning SC teaching licensure and alternative certification pathways.
Additional details and registration information for the SC Virtual Teacher Expo are available on the official CERRA website. This virtual event is an excellent opportunity for aspiring teachers to connect with hiring school districts and take the first step towards their potential future career.
