SELMA, Ala. – The small town of Selma is in mourning following the tragic death of _Caden Tellier_, the quarterback for Morgan Academy. Caden passed away on Saturday after suffering a severe brain injury during the school’s home opener against Southern Academy on Friday night. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a post on social media.
In a heartfelt message shared by his parents, Arsella Slagel Tellier and Jamie Tellier, they stated, “_Our boy, Caden Tellier has met Jesus face to face_. We appreciate all of your prayers and we covet them for the hard days ahead.” The post highlighted Caden’s kind spirit, saying, “Everyone who knows Caden has known kindness, generosity, and love.” His parents expressed gratitude for the impact he had on others, stating, “Lives have been touched by the way he lived, and now lives will be saved through his passing.” They shared their determination to honor Caden’s memory in the days to come and emphasized that his spirit is rejoicing in a better place.
Caden sustained the injury during the third quarter of the game and was airlifted to a hospital in Birmingham. There was some initial confusion about his condition when a post from the director of the Alabama Independent Schools Association reported his death, only to be later corrected to state that he was in critical condition.
In light of this tragedy, Morgan Academy announced it would be suspending all school activities for the upcoming week. The community is coming together to support each other as they grieve the loss of a young athlete with a bright future ahead.
Further arrangements for a memorial service for Caden Tellier will be made public soon.
