Fairborn, Ohio — The Seton High School girls volleyball team celebrated a fantastic achievement Saturday night by bringing home the state championship trophy. The Saints triumphed over Cleveland St. Joseph Academy with a match score of 26-24, 25-16, 25-15 during the Division I state final held at Wright State University’s Nutter Center.
The victory marked the seventh state championship for Seton, which now boasts an impressive record of 26-2 for the season. The team was powered by standout performances from players such as Charley Moeddel, Callie Combs, and Nattie Slusher, each contributing 10 kills in the final match. Reagan Miller and Kirsten Kemper also made significant impacts with 21 and 13 assists respectively. On defense, Grace Jones came up big with 15 digs, while Sakura Codling added 14 digs to help keep the score in favor of Seton.
This remarkable season also highlighted their dominance in Ohio high school volleyball, finishing ranked No. 1 in the final Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Division I state poll. The triumph of Seton joins the victories of other Greater Cincinnati teams that won state titles, including St. Ursula and Roger Bacon, who grabbed championships in Division II and Division IV, respectively.
The Saints advanced to the state final after a strong semifinal victory over Pickerington North, winning with scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-20. This year’s tournament was especially notable, as it celebrated the 50th annual Ohio High School Athletic Association girls volleyball state tournament, showcasing the growth and competitiveness of the sport in the state.
With a storied history in the sport, Seton has previously claimed state titles in 2005, 1996, 1988, 1986, 1985, and 1984. Their latest win cements their legacy as a powerhouse in Ohio high school volleyball and adds to the excitement for future seasons.
