Winthrop University’s baseball team faced a tough loss in their game against Clemson on Tuesday night, with the final score standing at 13-3. The defeat sees Winthrop’s overall record drop to 8-11 as they gear up for their upcoming Big South series.
In their debut for the Eagles, Shane Keup and Nick Gonsalves showcased their talents on the field. Jaylen Hernandez had a strong game, going 2-3 with one run and a double. Harrison Wilson also impressed with a 2-3 performance, including one run, one RBI, and a double.

The Tigers took an early lead with a two-run RBI single in the first inning by Will Taylor. Clemson extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning before Winthrop fought back in the fourth with Harrison Wilson’s double bringing in Jaylen Hernandez.
Despite Winthrop’s efforts, Clemson managed to pull away with four runs in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth, securing a significant lead. The Eagles had opportunities, loading the bases at times, but were unable to capitalize on them.
Looking ahead, Winthrop will continue their Big South campaign with a series against Gardner-Webb this weekend. The first game is set for Friday, March 22 at 6 p.m., with the series being broadcasted on ESPN+.
