Michigan Offensive Coordinator Sherrone Moore Signs Controversial Contract Amid NCAA Scrutiny

Ann Arbor, MI – Sherrone Moore, the offensive coordinator for the University of Michigan football team, has recently signed a contract that has implications for his future amid ongoing NCAA scrutiny. The contract, finalized earlier this month, features specific terms that could shield Moore from being fired for possible NCAA violations that occurred before he joined Michigan.

As outlined in the agreement, Michigan can terminate Moore’s contract if he is found to have violated NCAA rules. However, if any violation happened before he signed the contract, it cannot be used as a reason for firing him as long as the university was aware of those violations at the time of the contract’s signing. This provision protects Moore from retroactive punishment.

Moore’s contract was signed by him on September 6 and approved by the athletic director and the university president shortly thereafter. This contract comes in the wake of a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA, which accused Moore of a Level I violation related to the deletion of a communication thread comprising 52 text messages involving a former staff member. Reports suggest that he may face suspension or other penalties if found guilty of these allegations.

Furthermore, the contract stipulates that new violations in the future will not be covered under these protections. Moore could be dismissed for serious violations or if he knows of infractions occurring within the program but fails to report them to university officials.

Financially, Moore is set to earn a total of $5.5 million for the 2024 season, with raises in subsequent years. He will also receive bonuses for maintaining employment and achieving specific milestones with the team, creating incentives for him to lead the Wolverines effectively. If Michigan chooses to terminate him without cause within the next five years, they would owe 75% of his remaining salary, less any compensation from new employment he might find.

As the Michigan football team approaches the upcoming seasons, all eyes will be on how the coaching staff navigates these challenges. Moore’s new contract will play a crucial role in that dynamic as he aims to keep the Wolverines competitive.
