Rock Hill, South Carolina – Comporium, a prominent Internet Service Provider (ISP), has recently been awarded $51.9 million in grants to expand and enhance its digital fiber infrastructure projects across South Carolina.
The South Carolina Broadband Office (SCBBO) is spearheading efforts to strengthen the statewide digital infrastructure with the American Rescue Plan Act’s Capital Projects Fund grant program. The agency has recently allocated over $112 million across 17 diverse projects, assigning Comporium the lion’s share of these funds.
Comporium, along with seven other ISPs, is expected to invest a whopping combined total of $162 million over the next two years to dramatically increase the state’s broadband capacity. The enhancements are set to bring significant improvements in online connectivity and speed for South Carolina’s many internet users.
The awarded funds will serve as a stepping stone for Comporium’s ambitious plans to extend state-of-the-art broadband services across nine counties in South Carolina. This infusion of capital, combined with Comporium’s own resources, paves the way for a series of high-stakes digital infrastructure projects.
Overall, these initiatives are projected to cost nearly $78 million and will eventually connect 6,610 addresses to Comporium’s ultra-fast fiber-optic network. With the potential for broadband speeds surpassing 1Gbps, this is an exciting development for both residents and businesses alike.
Comporium’s broadband expansion projects are set to radically transform the digital landscape of South Carolina. The integration of high-speed, advanced broadband services will greatly enhance the overall online user experience, revolutionizing everything from streaming and gaming to e-commerce and remote learning.
While the full benefits of this digital overhaul will only be fully realized once each of the projects are completed, the prospect of a more accessible, efficient, and reliable digital network is an exciting advancement for South Carolina’s evolving digital frontier.
