Their recent victory against Lancaster solidifies their remarkable season as they strive for excellence.
In the vibrant city of Rock Hill, a remarkable season is unfolding for the South Pointe School Girls’ Basketball Team. With an impressive record of 16-0, these talented athletes are not just winning; they are making history. The team has climbed to the pinnacle of the rankings, sitting comfortably at No. 1 in The Rock Hill Herald’s latest Power 5 rankings and boasts the highest ranking among undefeated girls’ basketball teams in South Carolina.
One of the standout players of this incredible team is Kaleigh Lucas. From the tender age of five, Kaleigh fell in love with basketball, captivated by its physicality and the wide range of skills it required. As a true freshman with a wealth of varsity experience from her middle school days, she has quickly become a key player for the Stallions. Leading the team in points, assists, steals, and free throws, Kaleigh is a driving force behind their undefeated streak, averaging an impressive 20.6 points per game.
What sets this team apart is not just their skill on the court, but also their strong familial bond. They work hard every day, pushing each other to be better and aiming for nothing less than excellence. The team scores an astounding nearly 70 points per game, thanks to contributions from various players, showcasing their depth and talent. Kemoni Hardy, an eighth-grader, is one of the players stepping up to make significant contributions to the team’s success.
This season has also seen remarkable individual achievements, with both Ja’Nyia Cunningham and Serenity Woods surpassing the momentous milestone of 1,000 career points. Kaleigh Lucas is on track to join them by the end of January, following a stellar performance in which she scored 29 points alongside multiple rebounds and steals. Her hard work shines as she practices daily, balancing early morning sessions at the YMCA with after-school workouts.
Last year’s narrow loss in the third round of the Class 4A playoffs serves as a catalyst for their determination this season. The Stallions are not only aiming for victory but are set on claiming the state championship, especially for their senior players who have invested so much time and effort into the program. Under the guidance of head coach Stephanie Butler-Graham, the team’s intense work ethic and commitment to improvement are apparent in every play made on the court.
As they strive to maintain their winning streak, the Stallions recently achieved a decisive victory against Lancaster, triumphing with a score of 68-34. This historic season marks the first time that South Pointe has been undefeated at this point in the year—definitely a moment to celebrate! The excitement in the stands and the energy on the court reflect a team that is united and focused on their goals.
As South Pointe School’s girls’ basketball team continues to dominate, fans and supporters look forward to watching this impressive journey unfold. With skilled players like Kaleigh leading the charge and a solid team dynamic, there’s no telling how far these Stallions will go. This is a season to remember, one that promises to be filled with thrilling moments, as they chase their dreams of championship glory in the weeks ahead!
