This past week, excitement filled the air in Southern California as high school football teams kicked off their 2024 season. Several standout players made headlines with impressive performances, as showcased across multiple sections of the area.
Ty Olsen made a splash in his debut for Lincoln, catching an incredible 12 passes for 300 yards and scoring four touchdowns in a thrilling game on Saturday. Over at Granite Hills, Max Turner shined as well, opening the season with a career-high 203 rushing yards and three touchdowns, leading his team to victory over Mission Hills.
The aerial attack was on full display, particularly with Kristian Noriega from Hoover, who completed 18 of 24 passes for an astounding 405 yards and three touchdowns in his team’s win against Southwest San Diego. Kaedyn Hallman of Santana found the end zone three times, rushing for 187 yards to help secure a 20-7 victory over Canyon Hills.
Trevor Taumoepeau from Mt. Carmel showcased his versatility by throwing for 236 yards and three touchdowns while also catching a 39-yard touchdown pass, further solidifying his team’s success against Otay Ranch. Defensive standout Kyle Bolas contributed significantly with nine tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble in the same matchup.
In a remarkable game, Sergio Garcia of Brawley showed his skills across the field by scoring a touchdown on offense, defense, and special teams in a 36-20 win against Palm Desert. Meanwhile, Dorian Hoze from Murrieta Valley rushed for 182 yards and scored an impressive five touchdowns in a dominating performance against Rancho Cucamonga.
Exciting performances continued with Leo Hannan throwing five touchdown passes to lead Servite to a shutout over East from Utah. Dominic Duran from Pacifica Oxnard had a record-breaking night, completing 29 of 41 passes for 501 yards and six touchdowns, while his teammate Savion Taylor caught 19 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns.
Fans also witnessed standout plays from Journee Tonga of Leuzinger, who had five touchdowns on just nine touches, and Victor Santino from Inglewood who rushed for 182 yards and four touchdowns. Not to be outdone, Jackson Kollock showcased his dual-threat ability with 327 passing yards and three rushing touchdowns for Laguna Beach.
