Charlotte’s Southminster Aims to Bridge the Generational Gap with ‘Granfluencers’

In a unique trend in social media, “influencers” of grandparent age, known as ‘Granfluencers’, are making waves in the digital space. Thanks to Southminster, a Charlotte-based retirement community, a refreshing change and a vibrant stir has been created in the digital sphere.

Creating a Buzz in Retirement Living

At Southminster, they pride themselves in taking the lead in promoting social media engagement among their residents. Susanne Shaw, Director of Communications at Southminster, stated that Southmister’s Life Plan Community continues to be a pillar of fulfilled retirement living, and now they are ushering into an era of ‘Granfluencer’- led social engagement.

“We are introducing our residents to the world of social media, helping them stay connected with families and the latest trends, breaking stereotypes about retirement living,” shared Shaw.

Welcome to the Era of ‘Granfluencers’

Within this Grand-era, Miriam Prado, a social media specialist at Southminster, helps the residents become well-versed in social media platforms, bridging the gap between generations. Her mandate is to help residents share their lives beyond the retirement community and stay actively connected with their families and loved ones.

“It’s about extending intergenerational connections andising their reach to wider audiences, including more seniors and younger people who spend significant time on their devices,” Prado said.

Recreating Retirement.

Apart from providing a full range of convenient senior living options, Southminster is a place where residents can indulge in wellness classes, support local community causes and enjoy a culturally rich and active lifestyle.

One such active resident of this community is Rooney Robison, a 91-year old residents, who stands as a perfect example of Granfluencers. Today, she is using social media to get involved in energy-filled events like line dancing and much more.

Gramfluencer community members, like Rooney, are helping Southmister reshape the narrative of retirement living and promoting the community’s varied lifestyle via their social media exploits.

A Step Forward

Susan Shaw emphasized that belonging to a “typical grandparent age” does not limit one’s ability to embrace technology. “Southminster is gearing up and paving the way forward for their residents to become the Top Senior Stars on multiple platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Facebook,” said Susan. The Granfluencers are definitely having fun while contributing to significant digital growth for the Southminster retirement community.

Southminster is leading the charge in this latest social media trend, making retirement living more fun, exciting and socially enriched.

Impact Beyond Social Media

While Southminster strives to continue this social media engagement, echoing the significance of being socially connected, it believes that the larger impact of this initiative will be the breaking down of generational barriers and defeating stereotypes about retirement lifestyles.

The initiative is also about creating a wider sense of community, one where experience, wisdom, and zest for life are shared across the board.
