St. Mary Catholic’s Doubles Team Captures State Title at WIAA Division 2 Tennis Championships

Madison – The WIAA Division 2 state tennis championships wrapped up over the weekend, and it was a thrilling event for St. Mary Catholic’s doubles team. Vivie Auth and Adel Schneider capped off their perfect season by winning the title at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Saturday. As the No. 1 seed in the tournament, they finished the season with an impressive 31-0 record. In the championship match, they dominated against Natalie Cooper and Lauren Loesl of Pacelli, winning 6-0, 6-3.

Auth, who is just a freshman, teamed up with junior Schneider to navigate their way through the tournament. They started off strong, receiving a bye in the first round and then secured a spot in the final by defeating Maria Elizabeth Garcia and Akosua Yeboah from Columbus Catholic with a score of 6-2, 6-2. It was a fantastic performance throughout the day, as they won every match in straight sets.

In other divisions, Clare Schaefer of Whitefish Bay claimed the Division 1 singles title, taking down McKenna Thorson from Verona with scores of 6-4, 6-2. Additionally, Lexie Hankel of West De Pere secured third place in the same division. Meanwhile, the doubles championship saw Sarah Neubert and Isabella Heidenberger of Arrowhead winning, beating Abby Frasher and Amelia Stuckslager of Divine Savior Holy Angels 6-3, 2-6, 12-10.

Switching gears to cross country, De Pere hosted another exciting event. The boys’ championship was won by New London, who finished with 48 points, edging out West De Pere by six points. The top individual for the boys was Logan Boehnlein from Seymour, who completed the race in 16:51.2. For the girls, Shawano took first place with 36 points, well ahead of West De Pere’s 65 points. Kate Schmoll of West De Pere won the girls’ individual race in a time of 20:11.8.

Overall, it was a remarkable weekend for high school sports in Madison and De Pere, showcasing the exceptional talent and hard work of these young athletes.
