Classic Summertime Pattern Ahead, Beryl Inches Toward Texas

Classic Summertime Pattern Ahead, Beryl Inches Toward Texas

After an intense heatwave with temperatures soaring to 101º on Friday and 99º on Saturday, “cooler” temperatures have graced the Queen City this first Sunday in July. However, the term cooler remains relative with the current high temperatures teetering in the upper 80s and lower 90s across the Piedmont and Foothills.
A stalled front continues to hover over the Carolinas, bringing along much-needed rain and contributing to increased cloud coverage in the region.

The Week Ahead

No day in the upcoming workweek is projected to be completely washed out, but motorists and pedestrians alike should brace for slow-moving scattered thunderstorms that could surge rain totals suddenly over localized spots.

The weather outlook for the upcoming weekend similarly suggests a classic summertime pattern is setting in place in the region, with temperatures expected to surge once again to the lower 90s and pop-up afternoon storms anticipated.

Tropical Storm Beryl’s Journey towards Texas

On the other side of the weather spectrum, Tropical Storm Beryl is languishing in its effort to regain strength over the Gulf of Mexico as it inches its way towards Texas. The tropical storm’s battle against patches of dry air continues to sap its recovery, regardless of the presence of warm waters and minimal wind shear.

Beryl initially made landfall on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula last Friday, and despite its struggles, it is predicted to muster enough strength to regain Category 1 Hurricane status before running ashore in Texas in the early hours of Monday morning.

In a twist of events, remnants from Beryl’s moisture could make their way into the Carolinas later this week, contributing to what is already shaping up to be a bountiful spell of rain for the region.

Tonight’s Forecast

Temperatures are expected to remain mild and muggy, with scattered storms reducing to a trickle overnight, with a low of 75°. The wind is expected to be light throughout.

Monday’s Forecast

Regions should brace for steamy conditions with afternoon scattered storms anticipated. Highs of 90°. are expected, with the wind remaining light.

Monday Night’s Forecast

A few storms could still occur early in the night, followed by some clearing. The low is expected to be around 75°, with light winds continuing.

Tuesday’s Forecast

The weather is expected to be mostly sunny, with isolated pop-up storms likely to occur. The high could reach 95°, with a southeast wind at a speed of 5-10.
