Teen Fugitive Yandie Martinez Arrested in South Carolina, Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Haverstraw Shooting Incident: District Attorney Walsh

Teen Fugitive Nabbed In South Carolina Faces Murder Charge: DA Walsh

Youndie Martinez Accused of Murder

In recent developments, Yandie Martinez, a teen fugitive originally from Haverstraw, New York, was apprehended and charged with a second-degree murder case that made headline news. The case traces back to the fatal shooting incidences that took place on July 1 of this year in Haverstraw’s village area.

Details of the Homicide

On July 1, the police team at Haverstraw was informed about shots fired in the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and West Street. Upon arriving on the scene, officers encountered a vehicle that had crashed into a parked car. Inside the damaged vehicle was a victim, who appeared to be slumped over inside the car.

The ensuing investigation revealed the man had two gunshot wounds, one in his left arm and another one to the left side of his chest. The chest gunshot wound proved to be fatal, damaging both his lung and heart.

The medical team at Nyack Hospital, where he was hurriedly taken, later pronounced him dead.

Joint Efforts to Apprehend the Suspect

The determined hunt for Martinez ended on July 27 when he was nabbed at 1:20 p.m. in Piedmont, South Carolina. The successful arrest resulted from the combined efforts of several law enforcement bodies, namely the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Special Investigation Team (FASIT), the FBI-Columbia Division, and the FBI-Westchester Safe Streets Task Force.

DA Walsh’s Statement

“Today’s arraignment marks the first step in the legal process to hold Yandie Martinez fully accountable for his actions,” said District Attorney (DA) Thomas E. Walsh II, underscoring the commitment to attain justice for the murder victim and his family.

DA Walsh further extended his appreciation to Haverstraw Police, First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Lloyd, Supervising Assistant District Attorney Emily McNiff, and all other law enforcement units that aided in capturing the suspect in South Carolina.

Arraignment and Detention

Post his arraignment, the defendant, Martinez, was remanded to Rockland County Jail. He now faces one count of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
