This week, Tennessee has officially started its 2024 TSSAA football season with the release of the inaugural statewide rankings. These rankings were put together by sports writers from across the state, who will continue to vote each week.
In Division I, top honors go to South Pittsburg, securing 96 points and receiving six first-place votes. Closely behind is McKenzie, with 93 points and four first-place votes. Following them are Dresden with 66 points, Union City at 49 points, and Oliver Springs with 48 points. The rankings also include teams like Coalfield and Gordonsville, both with 47 points, tied for sixth place, and Moore County at 44 points in eighth.
Turning to Division II, East Robertson stands out with 96 points and six first-place votes. Following close is Riverside with 85 points and three first-place votes. Huntingdon sits in third with 68 points, and Fairley and Marion County share fourth place, both at 63 points.
Moving onto Alcoa, they have taken the lead in Division III with a commanding score of 100 points, earning all ten first-place votes. East Nashville follows at 83 points, and Dyersburg is right behind with 79 points. Covington and Giles County round out the top five.
For Division IV, Pearl-Cohn also leads with 100 points and ten first-place votes. Upperman is in second place with 83 points, followed by Greeneville at 77 points. The rankings show a diverse mix of schools represented across the state.
