Austin, Texas: In a fierce week of competitive games in the world of college basketball, Texas Women’s basketball team proudly climbed up two spots, securing the position of number three in The Associated Press (AP) Top 25. The rise in rankings is notable as the Texas Longhorns haven’t seen such elevate positioning since November 14, 2022. Competing diligently against top players, the Longhorns have come out victorious in the last seven games and are looking forward to their upcoming matches against number 20 Oklahoma and BYU before the regular season closes.
Meanwhile, South Carolina’s women’s basketball team continues their reign as the top-ranked team, a position backs by the unanimous agreement of the national media panel. After their decisive victories over Kentucky and Alabama, the Gamecocks successfully clinched their third consecutive outright Southeastern Conference regular-season championship. The team shows no signs of slowing down with visits to Arkansas planned this Thursday and a host game against Tennessee for the regular-season finale on Sunday.
Right behind South Carolina, the Ohio State women’s team clung onto their spot as number two, celebrating their share of the Big Ten title after their continuous winning streak. Stanford ranked fourth after a split two-game of home appearances against Arizona and Arizona State. Even with a loss against the Wildcats, Stanford held their claim with at least a share of their 27th Pac-12 regular-season championship trophy.
Following an impressive streak of victories, Virginia tech was elevated three spots to fifth. The team has won ten straight games and won their first ACC regular-season title, with a prominent record of 14-2.
The week was not without surprises. Notably, the Iowa team, previously ranked in the top 5, dropped to 6th, while LSU made four-step leap to the 9th position, and UConn climbed five spots to hold the 10th. Teams which had a high ranking in the preseason poll – UCLA, LSU, and UConn – once again found themselves in the top ten this month.
However, N.C. State was not as fortunate. After suffering losses from North Carolina and Duke, the team dropped significantly from 6th to the 12th spot. N.C. State will have their shot at redemption in their next game against Syracuse on Thursday.
The most recent AP Top 25 polls list the South Carolina team as the undisputed leader, followed closely by Ohio State at number two. After a period of fluctuation and fierce competition, Texas nailed the third spot, trailed by Stanford and Virginia Tech completing the top five teams. The recent changes in ranking have set the stage for further upheavals and rivalries in the coming weeks.
The NCAA selection committee is expected to reveal their top 16 teams for this point in the season on Thursday. Their decisions will help create anticipation of potential matchups and give fans an overview of the current college basketball landscape.
