POW, MIA Veteran TJ Martin set to be honored in York this Weekend

In a heart-warming tribute to their hometown hero, TJ Martin, the residents of York, South Carolina, are set to honor him this weekend. The city is to host a Prisoner of War-Missing in Action (POW-MIA) bench dedication, in memory of two times Korean War POW, TJ Martin.

A Glimpse into TJ Martin’s Life

Originating from the town of Clover, TJ Martin returned home after an excruciating two and a half years as a Korean War prisoner. However, his story did not culminate in his homecoming. Instead, he picked up the mantle to make South Carolina recognize its World War II POWs.

His undying spirit and relentless persistence bore fruits, leading to the design of the South Carolina State POW Medal. Martin took his final breath on May 15, 2023, leaving behind a trail of unmatchable bravery and courage.

POW MIA Bench Dedication

As an homage to the esteemed veteran, the POW-MIA bench dedication is slated for Saturday, January 27. Scheduled to start at 2 PM, the ceremony will take place at the York Veterans Memorial Park on East Liberty Street in York. It is worth noting that this remarkable dedication is being organized by the Rolling Thunder South Carolina Chapter 1.

The event will witness some eloquent speakers, shedding light on Martin’s illustrious life and contribution to society.
