Weather Alerts in Effect as Tropical Storm Hone Approaches Hawaiian Islands

HONOLULU- Central Pacific Hurricane Center on High Alert

As Tropical Storm Hone continues its march towards the Hawaiian islands, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center is closely monitoring the situation. The storm is forecasted to pass near or even south of Hawaii Island over the coming weekend. The approaching storm has led to the issuance of several weather alerts by the National Weather Service, issued just after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Governor Josh Green issued an emergency proclamation for Tropical Storm Hone, adding another layer of urgency to the situation.

Residents are advised to check for the latest updates and take appropriate actions as necessary. The alerts issued are as follows:

HAWAII ISLAND

  • Tropical storm warning: There is possible storm conditions within the possible 36 hours period.
  • Flood watch: This alert is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Monday evening. There is flash flooding due to heavy rainfall possible.
  • Hurricane warning: This is in effect for Hawaiian offshore waters beyond 40 nautical miles out to 240 nautical miles inclusive of the portion of Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument east of French Frigate Shoals.

MAUI

  • Wind advisory: This advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. The northeastern winds are expected to range from 30 to 40 mph with potential local gusts over 50 mph.
  • Red flag warning: This is in effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for leeward areas.

OAHU

  • Wind advisory: Also in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. Expect northeastern winds ranging from 30 to 40 mph with local gusts over 50 mph.
  • Red flag warning: In effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for leeward areas.

KAUAI

  • Wind advisory: This advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. Similar to the other islands, expect northeast winds of 30 to 40 mph with the possibility of local gusts exceeding 50 mph.
  • Red flag warning: This warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for leeward areas.
