Sponsor Our ArticlesAs the anticipation builds in Indianapolis, fans are eagerly counting down the days to the official selection show for the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Tournament. Scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, Dec. 1, viewers can tune in to watch the selection process live on ESPN.
In preparation for the selection show, NCAA analyst Michella Chester recently revealed her predictions for the 64-team bracket. Her projections come after the committee announced its top 16 rankings on Oct. 20. Chester based her analysis on the current standings while considering how teams might perform as the season progresses.
This year, the selection process will again include a bracketing pilot that ensures a fair distribution of teams. According to NCAA guidelines, 50 percent of the bracket will be seeded in four groupings of 1-8, with the top 32 teams identified and ranked before the final placements.
Chester’s prediction shows a strong representation from various conferences. The Big Ten leads the way with six teams projected to be in the top 16, including programs like Nebraska and Wisconsin. The ACC follows closely behind with four teams, while the Big 12 and SEC contribute three and two teams, respectively. Creighton stands as the only representative from the Big East.
In addition to predicting the 31 automatic qualifiers (AQs), Chester is applying specific criteria for selecting at-large bids. To earn an at-large spot, teams must maintain a record of .500 or better, as specified by NCAA rules. This adds additional excitement as teams continue to battle for those coveted spots ahead of the tournament.
As the season continues, teams will look to secure their positions in the NCAA tournament bracket. Fans can stay updated with the latest rankings and teams to watch as the selection date approaches. The tournament promises to showcase the best of college volleyball, with thrilling matches and potential upsets expected.
As December draws near, the excitement in Indianapolis is palpable, and the anticipation for the tournament only continues to grow.
