Vermont High School Football Season Kicks Off

This week marks the exciting start of the 2024 Vermont high school fall season. With several games taking place, teams across the state were eager to showcase their skills on the field.

In soccer, Champlain Valley had a big win against Middlebury, dominating the game with a score of 10-1. Standout players included Emery Thompson, who notched 2 goals and 2 assists, along with Penny Webster, who also contributed 2 goals. Middlebury managed to score one goal with Kenyon Connors finding the net.

Meanwhile, U-32 shut out Lyndon with a score of 6-0. Addie Gold shined by scoring 2 goals while Hannah Drury added another 2. Lyndon goalkeeper Anna Thomas made a remarkable 24 saves in a tough matchup.

In closely contested games, Milton edged out Mount Abraham 1-0 in overtime with Holley MacLellan scoring the winning goal just three minutes into the extra period. Essex also had a productive day, defeating BFA-St. Albans 4-0, with Grace Symula scoring twice.

South Burlington faced Mount Mansfield in a nail-biting match that went to overtime, with South Burlington winning 4-3 after Evie Keblin notched the game-winner just 44 seconds before the final whistle.

In volleyball, Montpelier swept Missisquoi 3-0 with Abby Hess leading the charge with an impressive 12 aces. Harwood won against Middlebury 3-1, while Colchester also celebrated victory against Enosburg 3-1.
