Washington Commanders Sign Martavis Bryant in Bid for NFL Comeback

Categories: NFL News

ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders have made a notable addition to their roster by signing receiver Martavis Bryant, who has not played in the NFL since 2018. This move comes in light of the team cutting kicker Ramiz Ahmed on Tuesday to make room for Bryant, signaling a potential comeback for the former standout.

Bryant, now 32 years old, last took the field for the Oakland Raiders on November 11, 2018. His last appearance was marred by off-the-field issues, as he faced a third substance-abuse violation that ultimately sidelined him. After a stint on the practice squad with the Dallas Cowboys, he was released in May, leaving many to wonder if he would ever return to the game.

Pittsburgh drafted Bryant out of Clemson in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He started his career impressively, recording eight touchdown receptions in his rookie season. However, off-the-field issues began to mar his career early when he was suspended for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy before his second season. Following that, he made a brief comeback in 2015 where he accumulated a career-high 765 receiving yards in just 10 games.

Despite facing further setbacks, including a ban during the 2016 season and a series of challenges that followed, Bryant continued to show glimpses of his talent during his time with the Steelers and later with the Raiders. His ability to bring speed and playmaking talent to the field makes this signing an intriguing opportunity for the Commanders.

As the offseason progresses, fans will be eagerly watching to see how Bryant fits into the Commanders’ plans and whether he can reclaim his spot among the NFL’s wide receiver ranks once again.
