Waterloo saw an exciting night of high school volleyball on Thursday evening as teams competed fiercely in the Section V Class B tournaments. The air was a bit damp, with a chance of morning showers earlier in the day, leading to cloudy skies but mild temperatures reaching around 60°F.

In one of the most anticipated matches, the No. 5 Waterloo team faced off against No. 12 Palmyra-Macedon at Waterloo High School. The crowd was electric as the Waterloo senior, Natalie Jones, successfully dominated at the net, helping her team to victory in four sets. The final score was 3-1, allowing Waterloo to advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on Aquinas Institute.

Across town at Seneca Falls Middle School, No. 6 Mynderse Academy made quick work of No. 11 Rochester Prep, winning in straight sets with scores of 25-7, 25-9, and 25-22. Mynderse’s standout players included Cheyenne Mangum, who notched 9 aces and 9 assists, while Kyle Kolbash contributed significantly with 5 kills and 3 aces. Mynderse will now prepare to face Wellsville in the next round.

In other matches from the Class B first round, Midlakes triumphed over Livonia with a decisive 3-0 win, and Penn Yan Academy grabbed a 3-1 victory against Haverling. Midlakes will next challenge Hornell, while Penn Yan heads to face World of Inquiry.

All teams are gearing up for their quarterfinals on November 2, with matches taking place at various locations throughout the region. The excitement continues to build as teams strive for success in the tournament.
