Weather Update and Local Events for Waxhaw This September

Sunny skies, outdoor fun

Weather and Community Events in Waxhaw

Hey there, Waxhaw! Hope you’re soaking up this lovely September weather. With the high reaching 82°F today and a gentle breeze coming in from the northeast at around 10 to 20 mph, it’s certainly a day to be outside. As the sun sets, we’re looking at a low of 67°F, perfect for a relaxed evening stroll. Looks like the clouds plan to stick around a bit, but who can complain when it’s this nice?

Remembering September’s Significant Days

As we flip through the pages of September, let’s take a moment to reflect on some important days that remind us of our shared history. We just observed Labor Day, paying tribute to all the hard-working folks out there. And of course, we can’t forget Patriots Day. The reading of names of those we lost on 9/11 is such a poignant reminder of the heartache and resilience our country has faced. It’s moments like these that pull us together as a community.

A Walk Through History: The Waxhaw Rail Bridge

Speaking of community, we can’t miss the charming Waxhaw Rail Bridge, which has been a beloved landmark since it was built back in 1888. Originally designed for pedestrians, it later accommodated vehicles until 1940, when it became a pedestrian-only bridge due to the increasing size of cars. This bridge is a favorite spot for visitors and offers a glimpse into our town’s history. A big shoutout to Randy Ferguson from Monroe, who won this month’s “Where Is This” photo contest with a stunning picture of the bridge!

Theatre and the Arts

If you’re in the mood for some live entertainment, don’t miss the Storefront Theatre’s upcoming production “Skin Deep.” They’ll be performing at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, and a matinee show at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Museum of the Waxhaws. Tickets are just $18, and I hear it’s going to be a fantastic show!

Library Card Sign-Up Month

September is also Library Card Sign-Up Month! If you don’t have your card yet, or if you need to update it, now’s the time! Just swing by any of the four Union County library branches. Not only will you walk away with a handy tote, but it will also open up a world of books, board games, puzzles, and more at your fingertips. Seriously, your library card is like a golden ticket to adventure!

Upcoming Concert at the Hall of Fame

Music lovers, mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 21, when the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte hosts Jim Lauderdale and the Kruger Brothers. They’ll also feature special guests like Kyle Petty Jr. and Sheila Kay Adams. If you’re a fan of great tunes, this is an event you won’t want to miss!

Tennis, Birthdays, and Health Tips

Before we wrap things up, let’s touch on the recent U.S. Open finals. Although we didn’t get an American winner this year, the tournament was a smashing success filled with thrilling matches (and plenty of celebrity sightings, too!).

And happy belated birthday to some local legends: Thurman Page, Jen Sanders, and Calvina Page! Hope your celebrations were filled with joy.

On another note, staying healthy is more important than ever. A recent tip from Time magazine reminds us to take care of our skin with simple steps: cleanser, Vitamin C serum, moisturizer, sunscreen, and retinoids. If we all embraced this routine from a young age, who knows how youthful we’d look today?

Local Happenings at the American Legion

Don’t forget, the American Legion Dean Haywood Post 208 meets on the first Monday of every month, and there’s bingo every Tuesday at 7 p.m. If you’re up for some laughs, here’s a joke from the American Legion magazine: “I went to visit a psychic. When I knocked on her door, she yelled, ‘Who is it?’ So I left!”

So, let’s take a moment this week to savor our beautiful days here in Waxhaw. Schedule your appointments, enjoy some local events, and most importantly, take a breath—life’s too beautiful not to!
