Winter Sports Action Kicks Off in Arlington High Schools

The winter sports season is officially underway in Arlington, VA, as local high schools gear up for a packed week of athletic events starting this Friday, December 6. With a variety of competitions across different sports, students and fans are in for an exciting week.

Basketball games will be a major highlight, with several matchups scheduled. The boys’ teams include Dunbar traveling to Bishop O’Connell at 7:30 p.m., and Olympic heading to Wakefield at the same time. For the girls’ teams, Olympic will face off against Wakefield at 5:45 p.m., while Dunbar takes on Bishop O’Connell at the same hour. Westfield and Washington-Liberty will also clash later in the evening at 7:30 p.m.

In swim and dive, events are set for Friday as well. Bishop O’Connell will participate in a meet at Gallaudet University starting at 3 p.m., while Wakefield takes on Marshall at 6 p.m. Other meets include Langley at Washington-Liberty and Herndon at Yorktown at 6 p.m.

This weekend also features a significant wrestling tournament with Wakefield, Washington-Liberty, and Yorktown competing at the Fairfax Invitational starting at 2 p.m.

Ice hockey fans can expect action at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex. On Friday, Stone Bridge will challenge Yorktown at 6 p.m., followed by Washington-Liberty competing against Bishop O’Connell at 8 p.m.

As the week unfolds, there will also be numerous track and field events. For instance, Wakefield and Dunbar are set to compete at a multi-team meet at Thomas Jefferson Community Center at 5:30 p.m.

Throughout the week, many teams will showcase their talents in both boys and girls competitions, ensuring that high school sports fans will have plenty to enjoy. Arlington high schools are ready to make this winter one to remember!
