Winthrop Senior Riley Huge Named 2nd Team Mid-Season All-American By D1 Baseball

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop University’s senior left-handed pitcher Riley Huge has been recognized as a 2nd Team Mid-Season All-American by D1 Baseball, the organization announced yesterday.

Outstanding Season Performance

Huge, a native of Davenport, Fla., has been having a remarkable season for the Eagles. He has pitched 41.1 innings, striking out 81 batters, and currently holds a 4-2 record with a 3.48 ERA. Notably, Huge is ranked 2nd in the nation in strikeouts and places in the top five in the Big South for ERA, wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, and hits allowed.

Record-Breaking Game

During a recent game against Maine on Saturday, Mar. 1, Huge displayed an exceptional performance. In this game, he pitched 7.2 innings, allowing only one hit and two walks while recording an outstanding 20 out of his 23 outs via strikeouts. His 20 strikeouts are believed to be the all-time single-game Big South record and the most by any NCAA pitcher since 2017.

National Recognition

Huge’s phenomenal 20-strikeout game against Maine brought him and the Eagles baseball program into the national spotlight. Consequently, he received national pitcher of the week honors from three prestigious collegiate baseball organizations: NCBWA, NCAA, and Perfect Game.

This acknowledgment marks a significant moment for Winthrop University’s baseball program, with Huge becoming the first Eagle to receive such national recognition since Jacob Dempsey in 2006.

Congratulations to Riley Huge on this well-deserved recognition as a 2nd Team Mid-Season All-American!
