Rock Hill Celebrates Winthrop University Basketball Players
Talford Named 1st Team All-Conference, Timmerman To Academic Team
The city of Rock Hill is abuzz with excitement as two standout Winthrop University basketball players receive well-deserved recognition from the Big South Conference. Kelton Talford has once again proven his prowess on the court by securing a spot on the All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive season. His exceptional performance throughout the regular season, where he led the Eagles in scoring with an impressive 14.3 points per game and 5.6 rebounds, solidified his position as one of the top players in the conference.
Talford’s accomplishments extend beyond just this season, as he recently joined the elite group of players in Winthrop’s history to score over 1,000 points in his career. Additionally, he reached the 500-rebound milestone, showcasing his versatility and impact on the team. With 1,323 points and 658 rebounds to his name, Talford has etched his name in the Winthrop record books and further solidified his legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats.
Recognition for Academic Excellence
Alex Timmerman, another crucial player for the Eagles, was honored for his dedication to academics by being named to the Big South All-Academic Team. Timmerman, who is pursuing his MBA, demonstrated that he excels both on and off the court. His commitment to his studies while contributing to the team’s success highlights his well-rounded approach to student-athlete life.
Throughout the season, Timmerman showcased his skills in 30 games, with seven starts, averaging 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. His impactful contributions on the court, including a season-high 21 points in a crucial win against Coastal Carolina, exemplify his importance to the team’s success.
