Winthrop Women’s Basketball Players Garner All-Conference Honors

Two standout players from the Winthrop women’s basketball team have been recognized for their exceptional performance this season by earning 2024 Big South All-Conference honors. Junior forward Marissa Gasaway and junior guard Jada Ryce were both acknowledged for their contributions to the team, following a regular season where the Eagles secured a 14-15 overall record and finished sixth in the league standings.
Marissa Gasaway
Gasaway received an honorable mention after leading the Big South in rebounds per game with an impressive average of 10.3. She also stood out for her performance in a game against High Point on Feb. 28, where she recorded a conference-leading 18 rebounds. Gasaway played in all 29 regular-season games, excelling in areas such as free throws made, double doubles, and scoring consistency. Her outstanding efforts on the court did not go unnoticed, resulting in her selection for this prestigious honor.
Jada Ryce
Ryce, on the other hand, not only earned an honorable mention but also secured a spot on the all-academic team. Known for her prowess in free throw shooting, steals, assists, and minutes played, Ryce’s versatility and dedication to the game have been duly recognized. Her standout moment came in a game against Carolina University on Dec. 10, 2023, where she recorded an outstanding 10 steals, just one shy of tying the school record. With 29 regular-season games under her belt, Ryce’s impact on the team was undeniable, with significant contributions in scoring and defensive plays.
The two players’ recognition adds to the overall success of the Winthrop women’s basketball program and highlights the talent and dedication present within the team. Their achievements serve as a testament to their hard work and skill on the court, setting a high standard for future seasons to come.
