Winthrop Women’s Basketball: Road to Redemption Begins With Presbyterian

Rock Hill, S.C.: Winthrop women’s basketball team is all set to make a comeback after a slender 52-51 loss against USC Upstate in the Big South home opener last Wednesday. Now, they are drawing their focus towards fetching their second Big South win against the formidable Presbyterian Blue Hose at home, on Wednesday night. Currently, the Eagles stand at 7 wins and 8 losses overall, with a 1-1 record in Big South.

This match-up with the Presbyterian Blue Hose is the 36th meeting for the Eagles. Historically, Winthrop holds an overall lead in the series with a 25-15 record. Last year, the two teams split the two games with a 66-47 loss for the Eagles at Clinton on Jan. 4, 2023, followed by a triumphant revenge, 59-51 at home later on Jan. 28. In the past 11 contests, however, the Blue Hose carry an insignificant advantage of 6-5. The Presbyterian last year’s performance was modest with a 9-9 record in the Big South.

The match against USC Upstate saw the Eagles lose ground in the last moment, thus finishing 1-1 in the Big South competition.
