York County Launches Project Lifesaver Program to Assist At-Risk Individuals
YORK COUNTY, SC – The York County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has officially announced its involvement in the Project Lifesaver Program, a specialized initiative aimed at aiding residents who may be at risk of wandering due to cognitive challenges.
What is Project Lifesaver?
This internationally recognized program is designed to provide rapid assistance in locating individuals diagnosed with various cognitive impairments. The program is available to York County residents who live with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, autism, Down Syndrome, traumatic brain injury, dementia, epilepsy, and other special needs.
Eligibility and Implementation
To participate in Project Lifesaver, individuals must meet specific eligibility requirements. Assistant caregivers or family members must be actively involved, agreeing to maintain the tracking equipment and to notify YCSO in case of an emergency situation. Each participant will receive a battery-operated transmitter bracelet equipped with a unique radio-frequency signal.
How It Works
In the event that a participant wanders away, caregivers can promptly call 9-1-1. This swift response allows trained deputies and specially trained K-9 units to utilize their tracking devices to quickly locate and rescue the individual. This community-oriented approach aims to ensure that help is available when every second counts.
The Importance of the Initiative
“This proactive approach is about saving lives and reducing injury risks for our vulnerable community members,” stated Sheriff Kevin Tolson. The program not only seeks to protect individuals but also aims to provide reassurance to families concerned for their loved ones’ safety.
Community Support and Sponsorship
The Project Lifesaver program in York County is offered free of charge to residents. However, the YCSO is actively seeking sponsors to sustain the program and help in purchasing the transmitter bracelets for at-risk individuals. According to reports, several local organizations, including the Women’s Club of Rock Hill, Women’s Club of York County, Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation, and Qwik Trip Convenience Stores, have already expressed support as sponsors for the initiative.
How to Get Involved
Individuals or organizations interested in participating in the Project Lifesaver program or contributing as sponsors are encouraged to reach out to the YCSO Project Lifesaver team. They can find more information on how to enroll or offer support by visiting the official YCSO website.
Summary
The launch of the Project Lifesaver Program in York County underscores an important commitment to community safety and health. By utilizing advanced tracking technology and community cooperation, the program aims to protect the most vulnerable individuals in society while providing peace of mind to their families.
